Frequently asked questions
Grow tents
A grow tent is an enclosed space, made of light-proof and reflective material, designed to grow plants indoors. It provides a controlled environment where light, air, temperature and humidity can be adjusted to the plant's needs. Grow tents are ideal for optimising the growth and flowering phases of plants, regardless of the season.
The right size grow tent depends on:
- Available space: Measure the spot where the tent will be placed.
- Number of plants: Small tents (60×60 cm) are suitable for 2-4 plants, while larger tents (120×120 cm or larger) can accommodate 8-12 plants.
- Equipment needed: Consider space for lighting, ventilation and accessories such as grow pots.
Essential accessories are:
- Lighting: LED or HPS lamps.
- Ventilation: Carbon filters, fans and pipes to ensure air circulation.
- Measuring instruments: Thermometers and hygrometers to monitor temperature and humidity.
- Growing pots and substrate: Pots, trays and soil such as coconut fibre, soil or hydroponic substrates.
A complete grow tent set offers everything you need to start right away, including:
- A grow tent.
- Lighting and suspension systems.
- Ventilation systems and carbon filters.
- Accessories such as timers and measuring devices.
This saves time, money and effort because everything is aligned.
Regular maintenance extends the life of your grow tent and ensures a healthy growing environment:
- Cleaning: Clean the inside with a soft cloth and mild detergent after each growing cycle.
- Inspect: Check for cracks or holes in the material.
- Check ventilation: Make sure filters and fans are free of dust and dirt.
Grow lights
- LED lamps: Energy-efficient, produces little heat, long lifespan and offers a full light spectrum. Ideal for beginners and advanced users.
- HPS (High Pressure Sodium) lamps: High light intensity, especially suitable for the flowering phase, but consumes more power and produces more heat.
The choice depends on:
- Size of the grow tent: Smaller tents (60×60 cm) need LED lamps of 120W-240W, while larger tents (120×120 cm) require lamps of 600W or more.
- Growth phase of the plant: Choose a lamp with a spectrum appropriate for the growth phase (blue light for growth, red light for flowering).
- Energy efficiency: LED lamps are more efficient than HPS lamps.
- LED lamps: 30-60 cm above the plants, depending on the intensity.
- HPS lamps: 50-70 cm to avoid overheating.
Adjust the height based on the plant's growth stage.
- Growth phase: 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness per day.
- Flowering stage: 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness per day.
Use a timer to ensure consistency.
- Cleaning: Clean the lamps regularly to optimise light output.
- Check for defects: Inspect wiring and connections.
- Monitoring service life: Replace HPS lamps after about 10,000 burning hours; LED lamps last longer, up to 50,000 hours.
